This could have been a much better story with better editing & research. The plot was a unique twist on the fairytale- Cinderella, which I did like the plot premise. I could see the potential for spin offs from that theme of body double/doppelganger type thing. The book cover was totally awesome. The flow was a bit choppy for some parts. I felt like some placement was wrong in some chapters which didn’t help the choppiness. The main characters, Lars & Cass, are very likable for the most part, enough to keep me reading to find out how it all works out.But there were some things that really dragged down the rating for me:
One- the author needs to send this back thru editing/beta readers again (if she even did so to begin with). I saw loads of misspelled words, typos, missing words, words placed in the wrong order, awkward wording, etc. It seemed like nearly every page had a mistake or 2. Not sure for grammatical, as I don’t usually catch those as well. If this had been an ARC, I wouldn’t have thought twice about the editing. But since I purchased this as a published book on Amazon/Kindle, I feel it was not something to overlook.
Two- the author needs to do more research on her subject matters (ranch living). (I used to be married to a rancher for 17 years & helped on the ranch) Some of the mistakes- you don’t use “pins” to hold livestock, you use “pens”. Pins are what you use when sewing. Also, inside a barn would not have been “pins” (pens), but should have been stalls. There also was used several times, the term “barrel jump”, western horseback riding does not usually entail jumping, not sure what a barrel jump actually is either since I've not come across that in my ranching experience, unless barrel turn (as in barrel racing) was meant. Another mistake, the stallion, Thunder is described as Thoroughbred and then as an Arabian, totally separate breeds can’t be both (unless it’s a crossbreed). Thoroughbred would have been the correct one to use to fit the story line of a race horse, since those actually are considered race horses (think Kentucky Derby). Arabians are considered endurance horses not race horses (not fast, but can go all day long, used for long distance types of competition) and are usually a little light weight for actual ranch work. (my grandfather raised Arabians) Ranchers tend to prefer workhorse breeds that are a bit heavier- for ranch work, Quarter horses, Paint horses & Appaloosas. They will sometimes cross-breed them with Thoroughbreds to improve speed in the resulting foal for timed events at rodeos, etc. Not many ranchers use Arabians, though there are a minority that do. There was more that I won’t bother to list.
These were just some of the things that really detracted from my enjoyment of the book.

Cinderella River Laurent 9781545468814 Books Reviews
First I have to admit I really enjoyed this story. The characters were interesting as was the story line itself. I read a lot and maybe after reading so many of these I've become a little jaded as to what I'm going to get when I open to the first page. Don't get me wrong I enjoy most of the stories...but I also notice that they are so loaded down with angst and emotional drama it's hard to not become frustrated with the plot or characters. I still finish them because unless a book is just awful I try and give it a fair try.
This story however got me interested from the beginning and stayed interesting. I liked Lars. He had his mind made up about Tamara (Cass) before he met her, for good reason. But once meeting her in person he was smart enough to see beyond his pre conceived expectations and see the person in front of him. To Cass's credit she tried to remain in character as Tamara as long as she could but just couldn't get past her true nature of treating others with kindness and respect.
Tamara (the real one) was the perfect character you love to hate. She had absolutely no redeeming qualities and each time she spoke you can't help but picture every mean girl you've ever seen or been around in your life. She is their poster child.
I'm probably rambling here so let me sum this up by saying the story surprised me and caught my attention. I got invested in the main characters as well as those around them. And even though I knew there would be the HEA...I still wanted to see it happen.
Great story. I will gladly read this author again.
*I volunteered to read and review this book. The review is still mine, and its honest.*
I just love how River Laurent made her little twist on the "normal" cinderella story. Its absolutely amazing.
Fairytales? well.. Cass had to go through a hole lot of dirt to get hers. Literally.
To help her sick father, she almost goes insane- going over every possibility to make the money part work. Everything seems doomed, untill her BFF tells her about the cinderella.com site, and holy.. the payments are enormous!. Its almost too good to be true.
She is hired to pretend to be a body double, and its about to get hard. The girl Cass is going to impersonate, Tamara, is a brat.
Tamara is spoiled, rude and almost thrives in other peoples misery. She just loves being on the high end.
Cass is pure heart. She's so lovable and quite the opposite of Tamara, which probably makes this job alot harder. She doesn't like to be rude to people, even less with really kind and caring people..
With the constant reminder of her father, she does well, considering everything. She almost gets the hang of it, but feelings always seem to come and stirr the pot.
****
This is a great book! Ive always loved to watch those cinderella movies, and to read a new addition to the same kind of idea is awsome.
I dont mean like "oh, yeah.. sure. Ive read this kinda book before."
No, just no.
I mean the consept of a girl having to work hard for the living and you know that she deserves a prince. or a cowboy..
If there was a tiny thing that bothered me, it was probably that it ended so soon. Wink, wink )
Thanks to the amazing author for providing me with a free ARC.
